Résumé : |
The present study investigates the students’ attitudes towards the effects of extroversionintroversion personality traits on their speaking skills in oral performance. It attempts to shed
light on the impact of personality traits on oral performance. It was assumed that the
personality style of students has a significant impact on their speaking skills and can cause
obstacles which hinder them while communicating and performing. To carry out our work,
we hypothesize that speaking proficiency in English can be well achieved by both introvert
and extrovert students if they overcome some difficulties hindering their progress.
Accordingly, In order to investigate the validity of our research, two online questionnaires
were administrated. The population of interest comprises first year students of English at the
department of English, faculty of Letters and English Language, University of Frères
Mentouri, Constantine 1. The selected population is, primarily, based on the fact that students
have different personality traits. Added to this, they are new at University; so they are
susceptible to come across many difficulties and obstacles during the learning process and
react differently to overcome these difficulties. The analysis of the teachers and the students’
questionnaires revealed that students’ personality trait is not an obstacle to achieve success if
they overcome some difficulties that encounter them while learning. Extroverts have the
opportunity to express themselves because they react with the external world freely without
limitations, while introverts interact with their internal world because they prefer solitude and
privacy. However, it is clearly noticed that both extroverts and introverts have the ability to
learn and to perform in a good way because each student has his own ways and strategies to
learn. Thus, it is not necessary to be an extrovert in order to master a language. |
