The present research aims to investigate qualitatively teachers’ of oral expression attitudes
towards the use of speaking strategies and its impact in reducing students’ speaking anxiety. The
underlying hypothesis is that teachers believe that the use of speaking strategies in teaching oral
expression would reduce students’ speaking anxiety. The educational setting in which this study
takes place is the department of letters and English language, faculty of letters and languages
frères Mentouri university Constantine 1. In order to achieve the aim of the undertaken research,
answer the research question and attempt to confirm the validity of the hypothesis, one tool is
used; namely teachers’ questionnaire ,which is administered to ten (10) oral expression teachers,
aims to seek the teachers opinion concerning their awareness of their students’ speech anxiety in
oral expression classrooms, whether they use speaking strategies in teaching the speaking skill
and if it helps in reducing the students’ speaking anxiety. The findings of the study are in the
direction of the hypothesis and show that teachers believe that the use of speaking strategies in
teaching speaking skill would reduce students’ speaking anxiety. Teachers are recommended to
take students' anxiety into consideration when teaching speaking and use several speaking
strategies to raise their motivation and to overcome some psychological problems that prevent
students' participation in speaking tasks. |
