Résumé : |
This current research is conducted to investigate students’ comprehension of the African
American dialect through its most common morphosyntactic features. To attain the research
outcomes, a sample of 34 students of third year is randomly selected at the English department,
Frères Mentouri University, Constantine 1. It is hypothesized that if third year students are
exposed to the African American dialect and acquainted with its historical and cultural
dimensions, they will apprehend it through its syntactical traits. To check the inquiry’s
hypothesis, a questionnaire and test are selected as the most fundamental research tools. The
findings maintained from the investigation instruments validated the research hypothesis. Put
differently, it was found that the majority of the students under investigation are neither
exposed to the dialect nor acquainted with its historical and cultural facets; hence, they were
not able to comprehend it. The results also authenticated that the students implement some
features of the African American dialect unconsciously; thus, to explore this phenomenon, a
further study is recommended. |
