| Résumé : |
The present study examines the effects of foreign language anxiety on EFL students‟oral communication in the
classroom among second year students of Didactics at Mentouri Brothers University of Constantine. We aimed
to demonstrate the impact of this issue on EFL students‟ oral performance; so we hypothesized that students
suffered from anxiety in oral expression and that this influence caused students‟ fear of talking in English. In
order to do our research, we based our work on two chapters, a theoretical chapter and a practical chapter. The
theoretical chapter includes two parts involving the speaking skill in classroom and anxiety in oral
communication. As for the second chapter, it is devoted to the analysis and interpretation of the questionnaires
and results. We proposed two questionnaires as tools of study to conduct our research, one for second year
Didactics students and the other, for a representative sample of oral expression teachers. The findings of this
research indicated that most students suffered from anxiety in oral expression. Students argued that this
stemmed from lack of self-confidence, lack of self-esteem, lack of motivation, and teachers‟ severe error
correction and difficult oral tasks. The findings also revealed that most teachers were aware of this problem, and
they suggested some solutions to help their learners avoid feeling anxious. On the basis of all these data, some
pedagogical recommendations are proposed to cope with anxiety in the classroom |
