Résumé : |
This dissertation aims at investigating the attitudes of third year LMD students at
Mentouri University ( Constantine ) toward the use of the apostrophe for possession .The
latter is used to indicate possession and , as such communicates clarity and
preciseness allowing the reader to understand what the writer wants to say . The
misuse or ignorance of the rules linked to the use of it can lead to semantic
inconsistencies . Most of the time , students omit and / or misuse this punctuation
mark . Their written productions show difficulties and confusion which reveal a
precarious understanding of the rules for the use of it . The sample of this study
( a group of Algerian third year L.M.D students of the Department of Foreign Languages
at Mentouri University/Constantine ) has been chosen to investigate the attitudes of
the Algerian Learners toward the use of it . To this end , a questionnaire has been
designed which results have shown a consistent and persistent confusion in the
practical use of it . |
