The current research aims to investigate teachers’ and students’ attitude towards the impact of
turn taking and repair, as two resources of interactional talk-in features, on students’
interactional competence. The underlying hypothesis is that teachers think if third year LMD
students of English master interactional talk-in features; their interactional competence would
be developed. The educational setting in which this study takes place is the Department of
Letters and English Language, University des frères Mentouri, Constantine 1. 65 Students were
selected from a total population of 325 third year LMD students in addition to 16 teachers of
Oral Expression (O.E henceforth) as samples in the present study. In order to reach the purpose
of the undertaken study, two procedures are used: Questionnaire (teachers’ and students’
questionnaire namely) and Classroom observation. Students’ questionnaire seeks to check their
opinions about classroom interaction and how it is influenced. In addition, teachers’
questionnaire aims at exploring teachers’ attitude towards the influence of interactional
features on students’ interactional competence. The findings of the study are in the direction of
the hypothesis and indicate that when third year LMD students master talk-in features of
interaction; their interactional competence would develop. Moreover, teachers are
recommended to orient their objectives when teaching O.E to the development of interactional
resources with regard to students’ interactional competence. |
