Résumé : |
This research work centers on the lives of Black West Indian immigrants newly arriving in
London in the 1950's as depicted in Sam Selvon’s novel The Lonely Londoners. Its aim is
to reveal the discursive and institutional constraints that have shaped their existence in the
host country. This research contends that these individuals are performing the identities
that have been assigned to their skin color through the process of ‘incorporation’. The
arguments supporting this claim are based on the notion of Performativity designed by
Judith Butler, its intersections with race and gender, Frantz Fanon's insights on Black
subjectivity, and on Raewyn Connell's concept of Hegemonic Masculinity. |
