Résumé : |
Learning a foreign language is a hard task, it requires a mastery of the four skills. Listening and
speaking are considered as the most important skills in language learning. Today many
researchers agree that listening can be used as a tool to improve speaking. This current study is
carried out to investigate the role of listening in enhancing the student’s speaking performance,
and the main aim behind this work is to show how listening can be used as an efficient means
to improve and enhance the speaking skill. We hypothesize that students who are exposed more
to the target language, are likely to be good and fluent speakers. This research paper is made
up of two chapters, the chapter is divided into two sections. The first section is devoted to
listening, we will study it from many angles. The second one is devoted to explain the speaking
skill and then show the relationship between listening and speaking. Additionally, in this study
we have used two questionnaires as a tool of research, one addressed to 08 oral expression
teachers at the department of English in Constantine University and the other is addressed to
30 3rd year LMD students in the same department. Based on the findings, we find out that
students cope with many problems concerning both listening and speaking such as lack of
vocabulary, speed of delivery, and pronunciation. So, we tried to give some tips and materials
to use in order to face these problems and develop the ability to listen and speak appropriately.
As a result, we have realized that both teachers and students agree on using listening as a skill
to improve speaking. Therefore, it can be said that listening is a good vehicle to develop the
speaking skill. |
