Résumé : |
The English language is the most used language in the whole world and thus the majority of
adolescents want to learn and master it as they see it as the most used language in different
domains with different people from different places. Learning English can be a simple and an
easy task for some learners, but difficult and boring for some others. What make the learning
task easy or difficult is motivation. Motivation is critical in English learning, and motivating
adolescent learners is one of the greatest challenges teachers face. This research work is an
attempt to investigate the role of both teachers’ and learners’ motivation in the teachinglearning process of English as a foreign language. To achieve such an aim, we relied on one
means of research: the questionnaire. Two questionnaires were handed to both learners and
teachers. The learners’ questionnaire was to investigate their awareness of the importance of
motivation and their thoughts and attitudes towards their teachers’ approach and procedures
and learning the English language. The teachers’ questionnaire was to collect data about their
awareness of the importance of motivation in teaching English as a foreign language to
adolescent learners and the new techniques they use in the classroom to foster their learners’
motivation. The results of this investigation confirmed the hypothesis and proved that the
learners are motivated to learn English because they like how it is taught and like the teacher’
techniques and approach who plays a vital role in shaping what occurs in the classroom. |
