Since its outbreak, The Coronavirus (COVID-19) has rapidly expanded to affect all walks of life
including the Algerian academic community. This resulted in the closure of educational

applications such as Moodle to continue with teaching and academic work. Therefore, this research

Teaching /learning at University of Mohamed El Bachir El Ibrahimi-Bordj Bou Arreridj and the
key challenges teachers and freshmen students face when using this new form of teaching
/learning. Data were collected utilizing a quantitative method; where two online questionnaires
were designed and distributed to freshmen students and teachers at the department of English using
google platform. Moreover, the gathered quantitative data were subjected to statistical analysis.
The results of the study revealed that freshmen students and teachers at the department of English
face different challenges when using E-learning platforms like Moodle, which negatively affects
their attitudes towards the later. These challenges revolve around, yet not limited to, the access to
stable internet connection (xÌ… =4.2), the unavailability of training on using E-learning platforms
(xÌ… =4.3), the absence of technical support in E-learning platforms (xÌ… =4.1), and the absence of direct
feedback (xÌ… =3.7). The findings of this study will pave the way for the educational community to
dive deeper and tackle different angles that may be brought by this mode of learning |
