Résumé : |
Thinking critically is very significant in generating a student, who will be an active citizen that
serves the society which he belongs to. In order to enhance the student's critical thinking skills, the
Algerian educational system adopted debates as one of the most important methods that helps the
students to improve their critical thinking skills .Therefore, this research aims at investigating the
impact of classroom debates on the student's critical thinking skills development, and we
hypothesized that if students interact in classroom debates, they will develop their critical thinking
skills. To accomplish the aim of this research, two questionnaires were designed for the sample
chosen for this study .The sample consists of ten teachers of oral expression at the department of
Letters and English Language, University of Constantine 1 Frères Mentouri , that are more
concerned with debates in the classroom and thirty five third year students who have been
experiencing classroom debates for three years . Our research provides a literature review about
classroom debates and critical thinking which attempts to give an overview about the topic of the
research, and a practical part that show the data collected and the results obtained. According to the
analysis of the results that indicated not enough correlation between critical thinking and classroom
debates, in which students are not actively interacting during classroom debates and teachers are not
appropriately managing their classroom debates, we refuted the research's hypothesis |
