Résumé :	This study is as an attempt to investigate Arabic L1 interference on Algerian EFL learners‟ accurate use of definite and indefinite articles as well as investigating the way EFL learners at the Department of Letters and English Language, Frères Mentouri Constantine 1 University, describe the influence of Arabic as a native language on their use of the English articles. To serve this aim, sixty first year students were selected randomly as a sample to represent all first year classes. It is hypothesized that the interference of Arabic L1 would influence negatively first year students‟ use of articles in their English writings. Written productions of the sample were analysed in order to figure out the different types of errors committed in the use of articles, while a questionnaire was administered to a smaller sample composed of twelve students who were randomly selected from the first sample in order to investigate their points of view and attitudes towards language transfer in the use of English articles. The findings reveal that most of the committed errors in students‟ paragraphs are related to Arabic interference. Therefore, this research recommended that students and teachers should focus on the first language interference while learning to write in English.
