Résumé :	This dissertation deals with the role and impact of Nelson Mandela in ending Apartheid, to which the colored South Africans and Indians were subjected. It also explains why Mandela is considered a controversial hero. After the victory of the South African National Party consisting of the white minority, Apartheid was maintained as an official policy. This research analyzes the life of the revolutionary and anti-apartheid politician Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela Madiba, who joined several political parties since his youth and led violent and non-violent groups. Mandela was imprisoned for twenty-seven years in Robbin Island and Pollsmoore prisons for his anti-apartheid activism; he was accused of sabotage, terrorism and corruption. Nelson Mandela believed that there is no difference between white and black people, they are all equal. After a long period of struggle, Rolihlahla Mandela achieved his goal. He led his nation, with a large group of militants, and succeeded in ending Apartheid regime. Madiba established a new peaceful and United South Africa.
