Résumé :	The present research aims at investigating the significance of ,The Guessing from Context, strategy among first year university students of English in general and attempts to analyse their attitude toward unfamiliar words within a text in particular .In order to reach the main goal of this study and check the validity of the hypotheses, two tests are administrated for 45 students, one of them is a pre -test and the other is a post-test .After the data analysis, the obtained results reveal that, despite the unfamiliarity of most of the words , students succeeded in correctly guessing the meaning of the words from the context during their reading process. As a result, the research hypothesis which claims that the use of contextual clues as a method would help students to understand the unfamiliar words is proven to be correct.
