Résumé : |
The present research aims to investigate teachers’ attitudes towards the
relationship between anxiety and students’ speaking engagement. The
underlying hypothesis is that teachers believe that reducing students’ anxiety
would enhance their speaking engagement. The educational setting in which
this study takes place is the department of letters and English language, faculty
of letters and language University des Frère Mentouri Constantine 1. A group
of (54) learners selected randomly from a total population of about 310 third
year LMD students is used as a sample in the present study. In order to achieve
the aim of the undertaken research, answer the research questions, and verify
the validity of the hypothesis, one tool of research is used namely teachers’
questionnaire and students’ questionnaire. Teachers’ questionnaire aims to seek
teachers’ view concerning their students’ anxiety and whether it influences their
engagement in oral tasks. Besides, students’ questionnaire seeks to know
whether anxiety has an impact on their engagement and interaction in
communicative activities. The findings of the study are in the direction of the
hypothesis and show that anxiety is the main factor that influences students’
engagement and prevent them from participating in oral tasks. Therefore,
teachers are recommended to opt for innovative strategies that help in
decreasing students’ anxiety and boost their engagement in oral tasks. |
