Résumé : |
This study investigates the issue of White Identity Politics in the political arena as well
as the impact it has on political attitudes and behaviours in the United States taking Trump’s
administration 2016-2020 as a case study. The study seeks to establish the link between race,
identity and politics. It also examines the notion of White racial identity throughout the
history of the United States to figure out whether, through the politicization of their identity,
Whites can gain more influential input in passing legislation, electing presidents and overall
preserving the Whiteness of the nation. Today, America is witnessing a rise of White identity,
which despite being considered invisible, has always been a part of American history.
Therefore, white identity politics is far from a novel idea; in fact, it was born with the arrival
of the Puritans in America. Since then, race has played a significant role in American politics.
Furthermore, as White identity becomes more prominent and the desire to preserve the
group's status grows bigger, more politicians, such as Donald Trump, seek to use it for their
political benefit. This research, then, aims to provide an answer to how white identity politics
shapes political behaviours and attitudes through analysing President Donald Trump’s
ideology, legislation, policies and statements as well as the ways in which White Identity
Politics manifests itself in the political sphere during his administration. This study's premise
is that white racial identity politics has a significant influence on political beliefs and
behaviours, and that Donald Trump used white identity politics to further his political goals.
In order to answer the question posed by this study, the analytical as well as the argumentative
approaches are implemented. This investigation is also centred on locating relevant academic
researchers and credible sources, then analyzing them to extract the data required to answer
the research hypothesis. Through analysing Ashley Jardina’s work White Identity Politics as a
primary source as well as many other secondary sources, this research came to the conclusion
that white identity politics plays a crucial role in shaping political action in the United States. |
