Résumé : |
Taking effective notes while listening to a lecture is one of the important strategies for students
to fulfill their academic goals and to develop one of the effective skills; listening comprehension
skill. Therefore, the present study aims at investigating the impact of note taking during lectures
on enhancing learners’ listening comprehension. For this purpose, and in order to check the
hypothesis that “If third year English students take notes frequently during lectures, their
listening capacities would develop”. A data is gathered through two questionnaires for both
teachers and students of third year LMD at the department of English, at Brothers Mentouri
Constantine. The students’ questionnaire is administered to forty graduate students, seeking to
know their attitudes towards the use of note taking as a strategy and the different techniques
adopted, also its impact on their listening comprehension. The teachers’ questionnaire is
administered to ten teachers of different modules such as: linguistics, history so as to know about
their opinions about note taking and whether they see it as an effective strategy to develop
learners’ listening comprehension. The results obtained from the two questionnaires show that the
majority of students are aware of the importance of note taking, and most of them take notes
during lectures. Teachers strongly support this strategy and encourage and motivate students to
take notes during their lectures. The results confirm the relationship between notes taking
strategy and its enhancement on learners listening comprehension skill. |
