Résumé : |
This dissertation attempts to analyze and investigate the binary relation between the themes of invisibility and blindness on the one side and betrayal and treachery on the other side in Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man; it represents the hypothesis that betrayal and treachery are the cause for the invisibility and the blindness of the narrator. It also scrutinizes whether Ralph Ellison is trying to reverberate the circumstances in which African Americans live throughout the three stages in living (education, work and politics) in America towards their attempts to accomplish individuality and conformity. Finally, it tries to prove that African Americans accept to be betrayed in order to be conform in the United States which caused them to be enslaved to each other and to white people without even recognizing it, in other words they become invisible and blind to society and to themselves |
