of English when translating English scientific terms into Arabic. 22 students of Linguistics
and Applied Language Studies at the Department of Letters and the English Language at
Mentouri University-Constantine 1 are randomly selected to represent the whole
population. In this research, the difficulties that face Master One students of English in
translating English scientific terms into Arabicare evaluated, an investigation of the
students‟ ability to find the appropriate Arabic equivalents of the English scientific terms is
carried out, and an exploration of the translation methods used by students to facilitate and
guarantee a successful translation of scientific terms is provided. One research hypothesis
is tested. If Master One students do not adopt the methods of translations in their
translations of English scientific terms, they would not succeed in translating them into
Arabic. The data are collected by means of a test, which consists of an English scientific
text to be translated into Arabic. The data are also collected using a questionnaire in order
to gather information about the methods that students use to translate scientific terms as
well as the difficulties they face during this process. The results of the analysis clearly
show that students have problems in finding the right equivalents to the English scientific

problems in translating Arabic tenses into English, in more particular the translation of the
Arabic past tense into English. For this reason, we hypothesize that if M1 students have a
good mastery of English and Arabic past tenses, they would successfully translate them from
Arabic into English. To check this hypothesis, this research is both quantitative and
qualitative. It makes use of two main research tools, one test and two questionnaires. While
the fist questionnaire is addressed to 05 teachers of translation to examine how students
translate past tenses from Arabic into English, the second questionnaire is addressed to a
randomly selected sample of 30 students of Master 1 students of English to examine how they
face the problems in translating the past tense from Arabic into English. In addition, a test is
carried out. It is divided into two sections. In the first one, students are asked to translate 1
Arabic passage into English, while in the second, they are asked to translate 12 Arabic
sentences into English. The obtained results show that students find difficulties in translating
the Arabic past tense into the English past tenses; they usually resort to merely the English
simple tense. Therefore, the learning and teaching of both Arabic and English grammar in
translation classes is of great importance and deserves more attention in order to improve the

vocabulary, as the primary aim of learning and understanding any foreign language is to
master its vocabulary. This research focuses on social media and their uses to serve students
for improving vocabulary learning. At first, putting forward one main hypothesis: if students
learn vocabulary through social media, they will be more inclined to improve their
vocabulary. To achieve this aim, the study relied on formal questionnaires that are addressed
for both teachers and Second Year EFL students at the Department of English at Mentouri
Brothers’ University for the academic year 2017–2018. A random sample of twenty-five
students and ten teachers answered the questionnaire. The students’ questionnaire investigates
the attitudes of students towards the impact of social media on enhancing vocabulary
knowledge. The teachers’ questionnaire is designed to collect data about the importance of
using social media as a learning strategy for their students. The results obtained from this
study confirm the hypothesis. The findings of the two questionnaires they reveal that both
learners and teachers consider social media as an educational tool that they should work with
to develop the way of communication outside classroom and using its benefit to progress their
