Résumé : |
The purpose of the present study is to examine the attitudes of teachers and students towards
the impact of mixing British and American English in EFL classes on students’ speaking skill.
It is based on the hypothesis which states that if EFL students mix British and American
English while speaking, then their speaking skill will be impacted negatively. To check the
validity of our hypothesis, One data gathering information tool was used in this research,
which is the questionnaire; both 35 first year Master students and 12 Oral Expression teachers
from the English department at Brothers Mentouri University were chosen randomly to
answer the questionnaires. The analysis of both questionnaires has shown that the majority of
1st year Master students mix British and American English while speaking; they are unable to
speak only one variety. Moreover, They both, teachers and students, are clearly aware of the
negative impacts of mixing the two varieties in the same speech on the students’ speaking
performance. Accordingely, the results obtained from both teachers’ and students’
questionnaires bear out the research hypothesis |
