Résumé : |
Fluency is a skill that entails a lot of speaking practice; however, having only two or three
sessions of oral expression per week besides having limited opportunities to practice the
English language outside the classroom make it a hard task for students to master such a
skill. The current work aims at investigating students’ perspectives on achieving oral fluency
through out-of-class interaction with other learners within the unversity environment, and also
to find what factors inhibit students to interact with each other in English. The study is based
on a questionnaire that was administered to 37 second year students at University of Brothers
Mentouri in Constantine . The results indicate that the majority of the students are aware that
out-of-class interaction with other learners in the university building is helpful for achieving
oral fluency; however, the majority of them as well are not interacting in such a way on a
regular basis. Moreover, the results show that the main reason for those who never interact in
English in the university environment is that they are not interested because they do not
consider such kind of interaction beneficial for them. |
