Résumé : |
The thesis examines the role of regionalism in England as a devolutionary
process between the two Union-wide political parties: the Conservative party under
John Major‟s leadership and the New Labour represented by Tony Blair. The first
chapter seeks to review earlier works which reveal a considerable amount of
knowledge on the English regions and their administrative institutions; and how only
the New Labour managed to integrate the process into their political agenda. This
raises a series of intriguing questions on those novel institutions and the reasons
behind the success and failure of the respective parties implementing regionalism.
The second chapter presents a comparative study between Major and Blair:
their distinctive political ideologies, contributing characters, and the circumstances
surrounding the introduction of these regionalist institutions and their implementation.
Indeed, the study would have an insight into the British government through its
respective political parties. |
