In addition, it identifies the causes of those problems and some solutions to facilitate the process of translating them. The research data were gathered through a questionnaire and a test in order to test the credibility of the hypothesis formulated as follows: if first year Master students of English, Linguistics and Applied Language Studies do not differentiate between the types of the -ing form (gerund and present participle), they will face difficulties in translating sentences which contain the -ing form correctly. After analysing the data, it has been relieved that students are able to differentiate between the types of the -ing form, this is because they have a good grammatical background.
