Résumé : |
The aim of this study is to find the difficulties which face students when translating medical
terms from English into Arabic, and see how they deal with these difficulties. Thus, the study
aims at investigating student’s awareness about technical and scientific terms; it examines. If
first year master students read scientific books and know about the source culture, they are
going to be able to translate medical terms. The sample of our research was 30 first year
master students of English, and they were provided by a series of questions and a translation
test to answer. The results obtained in the questionnaire shows the interest of students to know
more about medical terms; however, students claim that translating medical terms is a hard
task; they justified this because of the lack of practice. Besides, the result obtained in the test
is a bit acceptable, but, in all cases the majority of students did not look for the equivalence of
words and they have a poor background about the field of medicine. This result validates our
hypothesis. To sum up, students need to read more about the field of medicine and they
should have this kind of practice in order to translate medical terms. |
