The present dissertation aims at investigating the impact of the lack of self-confidence on
speaking in class, finding out the causes of this problem, and suggesting solutions to
overcome it. To reach this aim, we hypothesize that the speaking difficulties that second
year students of English face in class are due to the problem of the lack of self-confidence.
In order to examine the validation of the hypothesis, we used two questionnaires as a tool
of research. The first questionnaire was addressed to a sample of (40) second year students
of English, at the department of English, University of Constantine, while the other was
addressed to a sample of (10) teachers of different ‘modules’. From the analysis of the two
questionnaires, the hypothesis asserted that the speaking difficulties that second year
students of English face are due to the lack of self-confidence. Hence, the findings revealed
that second year students of English need help from their teachers to overcome the problem
of the lack of self-confidence. |
