Résumé : |
Many researches in the field of language learning and teaching have agreed that
the main purpose of the majority of learners is to speak English fluently and with the
minimum difficulties. The communicative approach of language teaching and learning was
the main reason behind which such task have been given a great importance .The EFL
learner’s poor speaking proficiency is a problem commonly found in EFL classrooms. The
present study aims at investigate one main factor that affect the speaking proficiency of the
EFL students which is risk taking. It aims at examine the impact of this latter on the speaking
abilities of the students. Thus, it hypothesizes that EFL students abilities to take risks will
help them to improve their oral proficiency. The hypothesis was evaluated by an analytical
study inferred from the results of two questionnaires .The first one was administered to a
random sample of second-year students at the University of Mentouri ,Constantine, and
another questionnaire designed for Oral Expression teachers in order to share their
experience in examining the effectiveness of risk taking factor on their students’ speaking
proficiency .The analysis of the latter revealed that risk taking is a very important strategy to
improve the EFL student’s speaking proficiency and the investigations on risk taking have
demonstrated that in EFL learning, risk taking plays a major role, since it enhances
proficiency in the target language, giving experience to students to partake actively in English
classes and encouraged them to be risk takers which can help them to built self confident and
to be more effective communicators. So ,the students who are able to take more risks in
classroom are more successful and their oral achievement is better than inhibited students.
Accordingly, the results obtained confirm our hypothesis and affirmed that the research
variables are positively correlated.
