Résumé : |
This study is conducted to point out a problematic area in language learning, which is spelling
errors, causes, classifications and their effects on the writing performance of EFL students.
The target population for this study is first year students of English Department at the
University of Frères Mentouri Constantine 1. For this, it can be hypothesized that If EFL
student are not aware of their spelling errors, their writing performance may be inadequate.
To check the validity of the hypothesis two means of research used: a teachers' questionnaire
and a students' test. The sample is made up of ; 10 teachers and 10 students. The results
obtained from both means have strongly confirmed the hypothesis we set in our study which
states that students commit different types of errors in their writing and that could be the
result of many reasons: students are not aware about the spelling rules and spelling strategies.
Because spelling is an important skill, student should practice and read and teachers should
devote, as well, sessions to teach the most important spelling rules and strategies whenever
needed |
