The hatred for this man and his treason made almost all the historians of his time and the decades after it, view him as nothing more than the representation of evil in the American Revolution. Not until the beginning of the 1900s, that the views about this man started to consternate more on the effect of his treason on the American revolution and the American society as a whole, rather than just focusing on the act of treason. This is where this paper comes to effect. This papers aims at analyzing the effect of Benedict Arnold’s treason on the American Revolution, and on the American virtue after 1780, and how his actions gave a new life to the revolutionary passion and made the Americans more committed to their cause. The paper also, examines how his image as America’s despised man was used as a tool to put pressure on the Continental Congress, and to change the political representation inside the Congress, and the political scene as a whole.
