Résumé : |
Speaking is an important and difficult task for most learners. In order to help students
improve their speaking performance, intrinsic motivation can be an effective factor in
increasing their speaking ability. Therefore, the present study aims at investigating the
impact of intrinsic motivation on students’ speaking proficiency but also the relationship
between them. To examine our hypothesis which states that if 3rd year students are
intrinsically motivated, they would show better oral performance, two questionnaires are
administered to both students and teachers at the English department, University of Mentouri
Constantine. The students’ questionnaire is given to a sample of 25 students from a
population of 393 students to determine students’ perception of intrinsic motivation in terms
of needs and strategies which can help to improve speaking skills. The teachers’
questionnaire is given to 12 teachers of Oral Expression in order to explore teachers’
motivational strategies during their lectures in order to improve students’ speaking
proficiency. The analysis and interpretation of the results lead us to the conclusion that
intrinsic motivation is a crucial element in the improvement and the development of oral
performance, thus confirming our hypothesis. |
