Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : This dissertation examines and compares Albert Camus’s The Stranger (1942) and Kurt
Vonnegut’s Slaughterhouse Five (1969) in order to show how the spread of absurdism resulted in
parallels between the two works. The Stranger is one of the most celebrated literary works of the
twentieth century, and Camus’s testament of the absurd philosophy. The novel does not only put
forward Camus’s philosophy of the absurd but to a great extent depict his personal struggles and
trauma in the modern world that highly contribute to the foundation of the absurd. Slaughterhouse
five is also a novel that is considered one of America’s most influential, controversial and praised
novels in the post-modern era, it exhibits largely Kurt Vonnegut’s struggles in World War Two
and his post war mental state that add to the comparison of the two novels. The work examines the
novels from a Camusian absurdist stand point, it also alludes to major nineteenth and twentieth
century thinkers, Bergson Nietzsche and Sartre, in order to grasp the absurdist philosophy and point
out the similar conceptions presented in the two novels.Diplome : Master 2 Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/master/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=13850 Absurdism in The Stranger (1942) and Slaughterhouse Five (1969): A Comparative Study [texte imprimé] / Selma Djebarni, Auteur ; Ibtihel Assabaa, Directeur de thèse . - CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine, 2020 . - 69 f. ; 30cm.

Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Lettres et Langues Etrangères:Langue Anglaise Tags : Oppression womanist approach The Joys of Motherhood self
fulfillment Emecheta motherhood.Index. décimale : 420 Langue anglaise Résumé : Igbo women were economically strong and they resisted sexism through sociopolitical institutions in the pre-colonial era; however, they were represented in African male
literature only as silent mothers who do not react to oppression. Male authors have, also,
presented motherhood to be ideal as seen according to the patriarchal tradition. The existing
literature on The Joys of Motherhood made over generalizations about African women that
they are totally oppressed. This thesis investigates the image of African women in this female
African text. Thus, it relies on womanism theory when analyzing female oppression in the
traditional and modern settings and how female characters have reacted to it. The analysis
showed that womanist traits like flexibility, courage, adaptability and female friendship are
effective strategies, which help resisting oppression. It, also, revealed that Nigerian women
can be mothers and are capable of building market economy. Significantly, motherhood, in
the novel, is not a joyful experience for Nigerian characters because their womanhood is
solely narrowed to it, and it is a torture in bad economic circumstances. Finally, it is
concluded that not all African women, particularly Nigerians, are completely oppressed. This
is highlighted through the portrayal of the female characters Adaku, Ona and Adankwo. As a
result, Emecheta wants Nigerian women to be self-fulfilled, so she wants to heal the society
from sexism and racismDiplome : Master 2 Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/master/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=15388 Deconstructing the Image of Oppressed African Women: A Womanist Reading of Buchi Emecheta’s The Joys of Motherhood [texte imprimé] / Mazzi Kaouther, Auteur ; Ibtihel Assabaa, Directeur de thèse . - CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine, 2021 . - 86 f. ; 30 cm.

Shirley Jackson’s novel We Have Always Lived in the Castle (1962). It aims at establishing a
cultural context to the novel in order to provide a new understanding of Shirley Jackson’s
literature and classifying her as a quintessential writer of the 1950s. It mainly focuses on the
way the novel depicts the psychological and social anxieties of the fifties through the
struggles of the main characters. The study adopts the Jungian archetypal criticism in addition
to the American cultural history of the 1950s in order to juxtapose the archetypes found in the
novel with the issues of that decade. Therefore, the main conclusion provides evidence that
the novel, indeed, depicts the fifties’ anxieties, and that Shirley Jackson is considered as a
quintessential writer of that age.Diplome : Master 2 Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/master/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=13853 The Depiction of the 1950s American Inner and Social Anxieties within a Cultural Context in Shirley Jackson’s We Have Always Lived in the Castle (1962) [texte imprimé] / Nesrine Laraba, Auteur ; Ibtihel Assabaa, Directeur de thèse . - CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine, 2020 . - 74 f. ; 30cm.

contemporary fairy tales. It focuses mainly on the development of the female character and
how it has changed over time explaining the evolving of children’s literature from oral to
written. Additionally, it examines the characters and symbols in Grimm’s fairy tales
“Rapunzel”. They are German famous writers who collected the oral fairy tales and have
written them in one book. It also examines Disney’s animated movie “Frozen”. Which is a very
popular animated movie because of the different elements it represents associated with
feminism. The thesis studies both stories from a feminist standpoint. It adopts the 2nd wave
feminist approach to figure out whether Disney has broken gender stereotypes represented in
the classic fairy tale or not.Diplome : Master 2 Permalink : https://bu.umc.edu.dz/master/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=12573 The Representation of Female and Male Characters in Classic and Contemporary Fairy Tales: An Analysis of Grimm’s “Rapunzel” and Disney’s Frozen from a Feminist Standpoint [texte imprimé] / Nihed Ramoul, Auteur ; Ibtihel Assabaa, Directeur de thèse . - CONSTANTINE [ALGERIE] : Université Frères Mentouri Constantine, 2019 . - 59 f. ; 30cm.
