Résumé : |
The present study is intended to examine the role of vocabulary in enhancing EFL
Speaking skills. More specifically, it attempts to investigate the beliefs and views
teachers and students hold about the about significance of learners‟ vocabulary
knowledge for enhanced oral performance. This study in based on one major
hypothesis: Oral Expression teachers and second year students at the Department of
English, at Mentouri University of Constantine, are aware that vocabulary is key to
effective speaking abilities, and they both use various strategies to enhance students'
vocabulary in order to grow into successful speakers of English. To obtain the
necessary information, attain the objectives, answer the research questions, and check
the validity of the hypothesis, two questionnaires have been administered: one for the
teachers and the other for second year students (during the academic year 2018-2019).
The findings demonstrate that vocabulary knowledge is essential for effective oral
performance and that lack therein is a major problem EFL students face while
speaking. Thus, the results are in the direction of our research hypothesis and confirm
that both teachers and students are conscious that enhancing students‟ vocabulary
level would help them communicate successfully |
