Résumé : |
The purpose of the present study is to investigate the effectiveness of extensive reading skill
on first year English students’ grammar performance in terms of the appropriate use of the
irregular verbs when they write. The students of English as a foreign language are facing a
variety of grammar problems that make their writing not proficient. One major problem is the
inappropriate use of irregular verbs. Thus, we hypothesize that ‘‘if the English first year
students as a foreign language really follow up the extensive reading, they will gain academic
and educational benefits besides they will improve their grammar performance in terms of the
correct use of the irregular verbs within written language. To achieve such an aim, we have
relied on the questionnaire; the data we gathered through a series of questionnaire
administered to a sample of 70 students and delivered to 10 grammar teachers at the
department of English at the University of Constantine. The results obtained from the current
study could confirm our hypothesis which stated that students would reduce the misuse of the
irregular verbs when they write if they read extensively. |
