In the present study, Arabic is introduced through the use of Arabic subtitles as a technique to facilitate the listening process and track any improvement in the listening comprehension of first year LMD students at “Mentouri Brothers” University, Constantine. We hypothesize that exposing first year students to videos subtitled in Arabic would improve their listening comprehension of English. To achieve this goal, a group of first year English students, selected randomly, are assigned to watch a video twice, first without subtitles, then with Arabic subtitles and they are requested to answer a set of 12 comprehension questions about the content of the video. The aim of the test is to track any improvement in the students’ listening comprehension. A questionnaire is devised to complement the tests’ data. It aims basically to have some insights about students’ attitude towards the use of the Arabic subtitles to improve their listening comprehension skill. The findings show that Arabic subtitles helped extensively in improving the learners listening comprehension, which confirms the hypothesis of the study.
