Résumé : |
EST students encounter problems when analysing scientific and technical texts. As known,
rhetorical functions are the clues which avail EST students to understand those texts.
Accordingly, the present study endeavors to illuminate the consequences of utilizing the
rhetorical functions of illustration and visual-verbal relationship in enhancing students'
understanding. The study consists of two chapters: the theoretical one represents an overview
of ESP related to EST and the second is the practical part which is used to gather data. Our
hypothesis is that if Master One learners can easily distinguish the rhetorical function of
illustration from visual-verbal in scientific EST discourse, they would enhance their
performance and improve their level in analysing scientific texts. This hypothesis is evaluated
by the results obtained from teachers' and students' questionnaires and students' test to the
intended sample of six (06) ESP/ EST teachers and thirty (30) Master One Applied Languages
learners from the Department of English, "Des Frères" Mentouri Constantine, during the
academic year 2015/2016. The obtained results were tabulated, analysed and discussed and
the hypothesis is confirmed. |
