It attempts, through empirical research, to elicit the students‟ attitudes towards the use of literature in their classes and its relationship with the learning of English as a foreign language. It also tries to elicit the teachers‟ attitudes towards the use of literature in their English classrooms and rating their students‟ cultural awareness about the target culture. The research design incorporates the use of questionnaires. The sample consists of teachers and master one didactics students in the department of English Frères Mentouri University, Constantine (1). The analysis of the findings of the study indicates that students hold mixed feelings towards literature, i.e. positive and negative. Yet, it should be noted that a considerable number of them holds a positive stance towards the use of literary texts in the process of language teaching, as it was expected in fact. Teachers also carry positive attitudes towards its significance in the study of a foreign language. The second finding of the study reveals the fact that both teachers and students agree on how this implementation plays a great role in developing the literary competence, cultural awareness and the four skills. Thus, the findings of the study prove the hypothesis.
