The aim of the present research work is to detect the most adequate strategies used in the translation of metaphors. The participants in the study are eight English teachers of translation at the University of Constantine, Faculty of Letters and Languages. They are requested to translate a sample of 33 metaphors in a political speech of the US president Donald Trump. The analysis of the translations answers two questions what strategies are the most used in the translation of metaphors and whether the type of the metaphor determines the strategy to use in the translation of metaphorical language, in English-Arabic translation. First, the analysis reveals that the direct translation strategy is the most used one by the participants in this study. Second, the results have given evidence that the type of the metaphor does not dictate the strategy to use. Based on these results, we conclude that translation of metaphors is not determined neither by the type of the metaphors nor by a predetermined set of strategies. It is related more to a number of elements such as the personal judgment of the translator and to the purpose of the translation itself.
