Résumé : |
This dissertation studies the eras in which Shakespeare had lived in as well as analyses
four of the most prominent female characters in the Shakespearean pantheon. The periods in
which Shakespeare had lived in, notably the Elizabethan and the Jacobean eras, were quite
misogynistic in nature. This misogyny is apparent within the context of the time periods, and
is also apparent in Shakespeare's plays as they are a reflection of his society. As a committed
writer, Shakespeare expressed his entourage through the multiplicity of his characters with
which he mirrored the society he lived in. The analysis of Shakespeare's selected female
characters will be the main focus of debate in order to prove that Shakespeare was not a
misogynistic playwright. His depiction of the female character broke free from the mundane
and introduced every facet of humanity that a woman has. |
