Writing is one of the most important skills in mastering any language, but it is claimed to be
the most complex one among the others which need more time and practice to be mastered.
The present work is devoted to study investigate the students’ writing difficulties and common
errors they commit while writing. To attain such aim, it is hypothesized that if students commit
many mistakes while composing, their writings proficiency will be inadequate. To test this
research hypothesis, two data collection procedures were used: teachers’ and students’
questionnaires. The sample consists of twenty three students who were chosen randomly
among a whole population of freshmen LMD students, and ten teachers at the Department of
English, Mentouri University-Constantine 1. The results obtained from both questionnaires
revealed that do make mistakes in writing and those mistakes are related, according to
teachers, to grammar, vocabulary and the interference of the mother tongue. On the basis of
the results obtained, some recommendations have been proposed to help students overcome
their difficulties in order to improve their writing skill, and others to help teachers in their task
of developing the writing ability improvement of their students. |
