Abstract
In the framework of valuating medicinal plants of the Algerian and Mediterranean flora, this
study investigates phytochemical screening of different parts’ extracts of an Algerian medicinal
plant: roots, stems, branches, flowers and aerial parts. It also highlights the quantification of the
main secondary metabolites; total polyphenols and flavonoids and their correlation with antioxidant
activity in vitro. Biological tests have shown encouraging results for the antioxidant activities
namely: reducing power, hydrogen peroxide and hydroxyl radical scavenging, as well as for the
antibacterial and antifungal activities which were carried out by the diffusion method by discs on
agar medium where the effectiveness of these extracts has been demonstrated against five fungal
and bacterial referential strains. |
