Résumé : |
This research study shed some light on one of the most important strategies in the process of
learning. It aims to investigate the role of note-taking in retaining information, by clarifying its
different benefits. One of the benefits is to make the task of retaining information during the
process of learning easier. For this purpose, it was hypothesized that if Master 1 Civilization
and Literature students take notes while learning, they will retain information well. A
questionnaire was administered to teachers at Frères Mentouri Constantine 1 University to
figure out their opinions about this learning strategy, if they encourage the use of it and their
suggestions to include this strategy in learning. Another questionnaire was administered to
Civilization and Literature students at the same university to see if they use the note-taking
strategy, why they use it, if they know how to use it correctly and if it helps them to retain
information. Then, a comparison was made between students’ marks in two content modules
and the taking-notes strategy to investigate if taking notes really helps to retain information.
The results show that taking notes is a common tool used by Master 1 Civilization and Literature
Students of English; they really benefit from it but most of them lack basic skills of using it. |
