Résumé : |
The present study is an analysis of Aldous Huxley novel Brave New World. It investigates
the possible breakdown of the author’s human utopian vision. Using the views of Fyodor
Dostoyevsky on suffering, the theory of Theodor Reik on moral machoism, the thoughts of Michel
Foucault on deinstitutionalization, as well as other ideas that fall within the same philosophical and
psychological framework, the work examines the concepts of pain and emotion in relation to the
utopian society in order to reveal its potential weaknesses. The analysis of selected events and
actions made by certain characters proves that they are influenced by personal desires instead of
rational reasoning which could threaten the stability of their utopia. It also reveals the existence of
a bound vulnerability within any human society which forces human beings to eventually submit
to the limits that are set by their creator. |
