Résumé : |
Writing is considered a challenging skill for foreign language learners as it demands more
practice and efforts from both teachers and learners. The latter find it laborious to go through
the different stages of the writing process to produce their written productions. Thus, the main
concern of this study is the revision stage of the writing process and its role in refining
learners’ pieces of writing because in this stage students edit their drafts for the quality of
ideas, vocabulary, grammar, and mechanics before producing the last version of their pieces
of writing. We hypothesize that the more learners revise their drafts, the more they produce
better written selections. To verify the validity of our hypothesis, two tools of research have
administered: observation of the teaching of the writing process stages for 15days. In addition,
a test has given to fifty-nine first-year students of English at the Department of Arts and
English Language, University-des Frère Mentouri Constantine1. The findings obtained from
this study have revealed that the students were more engaged in the revision and they did
well. This has shown in the fact that their written productions are more refined in terms of
content (ideas) and the other linguistic aspects as vocabulary, grammar and mechanics.
Hence, our hypothesis is validated. Subsequently, it is highly recommended for teachers to
devote much more time and practice for the revision stage in order to assist the learners to
produce good paragraphs and to promote their writing ability |
