Résumé : |
Articulatory phonetics plays a vital role in developing students' pronunciation. Therefore, students
are initiated to core articulatory phonetics' concepts in their first year. Nevertheless, this part of
foreign language instruction seems to be challenging for students. The current research aims to
shed light on the challenges that students face in the phonetics course. It also seeks to know
students' and teachers' attitudes towards incorporating mind maps in the teaching of phonetics.
Fundamentally, it has the purpose of discovering the possible advantages that mind maps may
bring to phonetics pedagogy. In pursuing this aim, two questionnaires were implemented. The first
questionnaire targeted first-year BA students and the second one was submitted to phonetics
teachers at the department of English of Frères Mentouri Constantine 1 University. The findings
confirmed the hypothesis that students do face difficulties in learning phonetic content. Moreover,
the results revealed that both categories of participants have a high degree of favorability towards
integrating mind maps in phonetics class to bring clarity and organization. |
