Although Slaughterhouse-Five is considered a work of science-fiction infused with anti-war, it features the notion of dehumanization as well. This unveils another perspective of the novel, for dehumanization is a key dystopian element. First, this dissertation introduces postmodernism and dystopia since they are important concepts for the understanding of the novel. Second, it investigates the presence of dehumanization in Vonnegut's thoughts about stories, and then detects the depiction of the dystopian concept in the characters. Furthermore, this study highlights the causes of dehumanization and suggests that dystopia is a prominent genre of the novel due to the presence of dehumanization throughout the work.
