Indeed, the greatest gift that students wish to have is a rich vocabulary. Due to the intricacy of this skill, many foreign language students commonly suffer from the lack of vocabulary which obviously leads them to face problems in reading comprehension. For these reasons, our study aims at evaluating and investigating the importance of vocabulary knowledge on reading comprehension achievement, as well as, to make students of English as a foreign language aware of the significance of the concepts ‘vocabulary’ and ‘reading’. Additionally, this research reports some effective strategies that will help students’ to overcome their difficulties in which they will be able develop the ability to combine between the background knowledge stored in their minds and the textual evidence in the written piece to smooth the reading comprehension process. To examine the validity of our hypothesis, two questionnaires took part in this research one for students’ and the other one for teachers’. At the end of this study, results revealed that students have a little cognizance about the contribution of vocabulary knowledge in the reading comprehension achievement.
