Résumé : |
Vocabulary knowledge is the corner stone of learning any foreign language. The degree of
success for reading comprehension depends on the amount of vocabulary a learner possesses.
Therefore, the present investigation aims at determining the role of vocabulary knowledge on
students’ reading comprehension. Following a random sampling technique, the participants of
the study were 15 students (11 females and 4 males) and 7 teachers from the Department of
Letters and English Language at Mentouri Brothers Constantine 1 University in the academic
year 2019/2020. The instruments of the study were two questionnaires administered to the
selected participants to collect the necessary data for the study. The results of the analysis and
interpretation of the data compiled from both questionnaires indicate a lack in vocabulary
knowledge which affects students’ reading comprehension. The findings provide evidence that
vocabulary knowledge is one major element that plays an impacting role in enhancing students’
reading comprehension. |
