Résumé : |
Foreign language education is a varied discipline in which it involves teaching
learners several aspects of the language such as pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar,
culture…etc. Foreign language teaching advantages’ encompass enhancing the
learners’ four language skills in order to be able to speak the language fluently,
developing their cognitive skills and intelligence, and it may develop other
proficiencies and competencies such as intercultural communicative competence.
However, it is not assured that teaching languages is vital for broadening FL teachers’
intercultural attitudes. So, in this current research, we aimed to prove the positive
effect of teaching a foreign language on enlarging the teachers’ intercultural attitudes.
For that, we hypothesized that teaching English as a foreign language broadens the
teachers’ intercultural attitudes better than other teachers who not teach foreign
languages. The research method applied for data collection in this inquiry is the
intercultural sensitivity scale questionnaire developed by Chen and Starosta in 2000.
The questionnaire was administered to the teachers of English and the teachers of
Arabic to a sample of 10 participants for each group at Mentouri University/
Constantine in order to measure their attitudes; whether they have positive, negative
or neutral attitudes against other cultures, then we compared between the two groups
of teachers. According to the findings obtained from the two independent groups and
the statistical testing of the hypothesis, we approved the significance of our alternative
hypothesis. That is, foreign language education is vital for broadening and enhancing
teachers’ intercultural attitudes. |
