The major aim of learning English as a foreign language is to be able to speak and
communicate using it accurately and fluently. To this end the present study
investigates the effects of movies as an audio visual teaching tool in enhancing
learners’ speaking skills in particular and language learning in general. In this
research we hypothesize that the integration of movies in English as a Foreign
Language Oral Expression Classroom will improve students’ speaking skills. In
order to check the validity of our hypothesis we opted for a teachers’ questionnaire
as a research instrument which we administrated to English Oral Expression teachers
at the University “Des Frères Mentouri”, Constantine 1, to get an idea about their
attitudes and perceptions towards the use of movies as a teaching tool to boost
learners’ speaking abilities. The analysis of the results obtained shows that the
teachers have positive attitudes and perceptions towards the effectiveness of
utilizing movies to improve students’ speaking skills. Hence, the hypothesis is
confirmed. The main pedagogical implication of the present study is that teachers
are invited to adopt this method in the task of teaching speaking |
