Résumé : |
The present study is conducted to address one of the most frequent EFL students‟ problems when
it comes to their written production. This work sheds light on the negative effects of cyber
Language, and to determine the appearance of chat features on students‟ academic writing. The
present research aims also at emphasizing the importance of academic writing to EFL students
and their professional career. For such reasons, we hypothesize that if students overuse chat
language in daily communications, their spelling will be influenced negatively while
academically writing. In order to test the validity of the hypothesis, a descriptive method is opted
for this study in which first year students from the department of English, University of
Constantine 1 are randomly chosen to be the research sample. Concerning the research
instruments, a questionnaire and a test are used as to gather the needed data. The results obtained
from both tools are analyzed and compared and the outcomes of the study prove the
aforementioned hypothesis. The findings have revealed that students‟ written productions is
negatively affected by the frequent use of cyber language. Hence, students‟ profuse use of chat
language leads to a poor quality of academic writing. |
