Résumé : |
The current research aims to investigate teachers’ attitude toward the relationship between the use
of negative feedback and students’ participation in oral expression classes, the underlying
hypothesis is that teachers think using negative feedback in oral expression would decrease and
demolish their students’’ participation. The educational setting in which this study takes place is the
department of letters and English Language, University “des frères Mentouri, Constantine01”. A
group of (50) students selected randomly from a total population of (320) Third year LMD students
in addition to 14 teachers of Oral Expression (OE teachers) are used as a samples in the present
study. In order to achieve the aim of the undertaken research, answer the research questions and
verify the validity of the hypothesis, one qualitative tool of research is used; namely teachers’ and
students’ questionnaire. Teachers’ questionnaire aims to seek teacher’s views concerning the use of
negative feedback and whether it influences their students’ oral participation. Besides, students’
questionnaire seeks to know whether negative feedback influences their participation. The findings
of the study are in the direction of the hypothesis and indicate that teacher’s negative feedback is the
main factor that hinders students’ motivation and decrease their willingness to participate in oral
classes. Therefore, teachers are recommended to opt for innovative rewarding and punishments
techniques that help students develop their motivation and boost their participation oral classes. |
